Macquarie 3, ranked 11th after the preliminary rounds, was unlucky to go down in the Octo final to UNSW 3 in a split decision. Both Camilla Di Biase Dyson and Eamon Mooney made their debut at Australs this year and are to be commended for their efforts. Macquarie 1, ranked 12th behind Macquarie 3 (by the narrowest of margins), had a decisive win against UWA in the Octo final, but unfortunately went down to Melbourne 1 in the Quarter final. Eamon Mooney also made an impressive showing at the annual Test Debate between Australia and "the rest of the world". As first affirmative speaker for the motion "that Australia is the arse end of the world", Eamon had the crowd in stiches. Hooma Mishra was also picked as an adjudicator for this debate, and despite her fashionably late arrival, also managed to get some laughs. Macquarie also had several speakers in the top 100 rankings: Janine Dennis came in at 14, Camilla Di Biase Dyson at 40, Shane Ewen at 46, Michael Saadat at 48, Marc Lane at 58, Francesca Dickson at 67 and Eamon Mooney at 94. All in all an excellent time was had by everyone, and Monash must be congratulated for hosting an fantastic tournament (and then winning it!). We look forward to similar fortunes at Nanyang Technological University (NTU, Singapore) at Australs 2001! *a breaking team is a team ranked within the top 16 of all teams after seven preliminary rounds of competition. Teams sent from Macquarie: Team 1: Hooma Mishra, Shane Ewen & Janine DennisAdjudicators: Lisa Lepore, Adrienne Jackson, Alex Southcott & Karen McDowall.
