BBQ, Social Event & Screening: KENNY

Whilst not one of Australia's most moving or deep films, its appeal is global and Kenny has charmed his way into all of our hearts. Its big DVD sales may mean that a lot of us missed it on the big screen, filmsoc is here to rectify that by showing it as our first film.

When: Friday Week 3, 16th March, 5pm for the BBQ, 6pm film,
Where: SAMBar from 5pm-5:45, W5B Mac Theatre from 6pm,
How Much: Free to all members. Membership is only $5 for the full year.

Just a reminder that there will be a BBQ before Kenny. The BBQ will start up around 5pm and will go til about 5:45. It will be just outside the SAMBar, second level of the SAM building.

With baited breath, filmsoc waits for the release of Pirates of the Caribbean 3 : At World End, so in anticipation we've decided to prepare you by showing Pirates 1 and 2 back-to-back.

Once again a rare chance to see these films on the big screen again, join us as we swoon over Keira and Johnny.

When: Friday Week 12, 1st June, at 6pm,

To all you filmsoccers, new and old, welcome!

If you're interested in knowing more about the club, joining it, or just want to chat, we will have our stall open all of this week in the SAM courtyard. If you want to join, but will miss out, you can easily do so at your first screening. Remember that membership is a once off payment of only $5, and that sets you right for the whole year. Tonnes of fun for only $5! Even the Socialist club can't offer that.

Week 6's Friday (6th April) is a public holiday, so we figure it'd be great for everybody to catch up before the mid-semester break -- a time when we'll all be *cough cough* studying...

Our plans involve a BBQ of sorts, drinks at the bar, and maybe catching a movie after. We could either show a film (your choice) in Macquarie Theatre, or wander over to Mac Centre. We're open to any suggestions!

In 2007 we plan to show a lot more quality films at a price thats fair more reasonable (free). We will be organising the screenings at the Bar and will be taking suggestions, so far we have Joe's Apartment and High Fidelity.

Steve's Corner will be coming soon, Steve needs to sort out his timetable and availability and when thats ready we'll tell you about it.

The Friday night screenings have been set out for the first semester and we have left one gap to wait for anything new and exciting that turn up, especially if you guys want it!

From the acclaimed director of The Constant Gardener, Fernando Meirelles, City of God follows the lifes of two friends growing up in the rough side of Rio de Janeiro. An awesomely moving film, with its poignant contrast of the two roads these boys lead will make us all reflect on ourselves and those around us.

Last year gave birth to a cult classic that pays homage to the style of old, Film noir and the not-so-pleasant genre of the 90s High School films. This mash up work excellently and the lesser known cast made standout performances. Brick is simply a must-see film.

BBQ, Social Event & Screening: la HAINE

Following the riots in Paris, french director Mathieu Kassovitz gave us a stunning insight in to life, living in the projects in Paris. la Haine is an awesome film which shouldn't have depended on Jodie Fosters comment of 'The best film I've seen in ten years', but thankfully this film is far better than anything Jodie Foster has been in. Yep I said it.

As the world is slowly decaying due to a pandemic of infertility and the youngest boy in the world dieing, London and the rest of the world erupting into disarray. Thankfully, the charming Clive Owens is here to save the day and steal our hearts. Based on PD James' novel of the same name, Children of Men is a non-stop thriller which is sure to keep you holding onto your seat.
